Dear Curiosity Journal,
The 2024 sheep breeding season is coming to a close, and Betty just couldn’t wait for me to sort the whole flock. She had to sneak out the gate behind me a little bit early, so I let her join the lamb paddock a half day before the other ewes. When I came back to check on them, all 5 lambs were huddled around her chewing their cud. It was so sweet. It seems they missed having that momma energy around, and it didn’t matter too much that it wasn’t their particular mother. At least none of them attempted to nurse (at the ripe old age of 6 months). They looked so content resting together in the sun, but the clock is counting down to the day when the 2025 lambs will usurp their position as “the babies” at the end of March. As usual, I’m excited and terrified for our third lambing season.
