Dear Curiosity Journal,
As the growing season winds down, and the gardens need me less, I venture into the wild spaces more. After months of farming, I continue to crave physical activity, but instead of bending over, I’m striding forward, a nice change of shape for my lower back. Balio and I ramble down trails, exploring the edges, and ruffling the wildlife. We walk the in-between spaces, the field borders, and brushy margins where cultivated meets untamed. My eye is drawn to a speckling of bright orange berries in the branches above, sparking my curiosity, and igniting my inquiry for identification. The berries don’t seem to be a match for Bittersweet, Mountain Ash, or Soapberry. I ask Rufus, but he doesn’t know. I asked Google, but still don’t know. Perhaps someone reading will enlighten me. As Rufus likes to say, “It’s probably something invasive”, but I still want to know.
