Dear Curiosity Journal,
As we harvest the fourth week of the winter CSA, the growing season continues to wind down. The farmers are matching the energy of the field, losing vigor, yet offering up our final efforts of the year. We find our well-worn groove and force ourselves into the familiar motions. Some of these crops we’ve been picking for months (Kale, I’m looking at you). Others, like the black spanish and watermelon radishes, we’re on our first take, which brings a bit of sparkling variety and thrill to our routine. We mention making our favorite watermelon radish salad with edamame, sunflower shoots, and a mouthwatering blend of oils and spices. We look forward to a unique flavor that only comes around for a little stint on the calendar, the joy of eating seasonally. We only have 2 more weeks left of our 2024 CSA program, and then it’s back to the grocery store for goods, the bittersweet end of the growing season, the double edged sword of our cyclical work. However, it also means winter rest, and we’re looking forward to that.
