Dear Curiosity Journal,

I’m so proud of my friend Gabriela Marvan who has poured her creative passion into so many projects and helped to bring Mexican folk art to the Driftless community. On Thursday, we co-hosted an art opening at Noble Rind Cheese Company to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and spread the word about the upcoming Driftless Region’s Dia de Muertos Celebration. Gaby, Renee (Gaby’s dad), and I placed papier mâché Catrinas, hung pinatas, papel picado, and photos, as well as a poster explaining the meaning of the cultural celebration. We set up the larger-than-life-sized “Frida Kahlo Catrina” on the sidewalk outside of Noble Rind to greet visitors, which pulled on the curiosity of pedestrians. Rufus and I also brought two buckets of marigolds from the farm to give away to attendees. We had so much fun engaging with everyone who came in, which stirred up our collective crescendo of excitement for the big day. Visit Noble Rind from now until October to check out Gabriela’s exhibition, and head to Keewaydin Farms on Saturday, October 5th from 2 PM to 7 PM to celebrate the Day of the Dead with us.
