Dear Curiosity Journal,

The highlights of the third week of the fall CSA harvest included gorgeous weather for gathering, great big tomatoes, and girly giggles when the goats and sheep watched us pack vegetables through the barn windows. As the flock finished clearing the brush from the side of the barn, they discovered the windows and periodically peaked in on us, staring through the thick glass and following our movements as we set sweet corn into CSA shares. While greeting them, it dawned on me that they probably don’t have much experience with windows and likely found them quite curious because they continued to investigate them throughout the day. Some of the more vocal ladies even blasted a few baahs into the building, seemingly demanding an explanation…or perhaps an ear of sweet corn. I loved having them close and being able to watch them graze throughout the day from my post in the pack shed. By the end of the day, they were done eating the paddock and turned their attention toward mischief (nibbling on the building and looking for escape routes), clear signs that they’re ready for a new spot tomorrow. I’m happy that they just so happened to be at the windowsill on a pack-out day, another perk of the mobile fencing. In the future, I can design their pasture to be in close proximity to my work area, so we can enjoy observing each other in curiosity, simultaneously sheep watching and people watching.
