Dear Curiosity Journal,
We really had to rally to take on the heat and lift of this heavy harvest day. Annie’s absence is evident, and we feel acutely aware of all that she took care of sliding back onto our plates. This is our team of two. We’ve done it before, and we will do it again. Rufus is some kind of superhero, the way he perseveres and muscles through all of the necessary labor to keep the farm running. I’m literally in awe of his stamina and ability to grow so much food. The heat is the only thing that really gets to him, but he works through it in stride, somehow managing to incorporate just enough humor to keep things light. He picks, I pack. We work through the CSA together, like we always do, tending to the steady beat of work between us, a bond that borders on delirium in the heat of a summer harvest. We do our best to give each other full support through all of our farming delusions, believing in each other to the utmost, to be superhuman, and slightly overzealous, which catches up to us by late August, when all we can do is diligently step into the work, we said we would accomplish, while periodically questioning everything once it gets into the hundreds.
