Dear Curiosity Journal,
Bonfires seem to be a fitting form of send off, lighting the next leg of the journey, blazing the trail ahead, burning up the old to fuel and regenerate the new. As the early autumn light dipped low in the sky, Rufus, Annie, and I gathered firewood and built a pyre to say goodbye. We’ll host one last gathering together, a congregation of Kickapoogans who have become fast friends with sweet Annie. Tomorrow we’ll encircle the blaze, share stories and veggies, laugh, cry, and burn to give our prodigy a proper send off as she returns to the University of Minnesota to complete her degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems. We know wherever she ends up, she will succeed and carry a sprinkle of her Driftless summer into her future farming career.
