Dear Curiosity Journal,

Well, it took them four months, but the flock finally figured out that we didn’t finish the fencing in the bottom corner of the 3-acre pasture we built this spring. Creatures of habit, they lingered in their comfort zone until I led them down the hill to the taller grass for the umpteenth time. Ultimately it was the goats who discovered the breech and led the exodus, eventually moseying up to the homestead, announcing their freedom. Rufus helped me weed whack the perimeter and stretch the woven wire, so that I could clip the line into the T-posts. When I brought the sheep down to graze the newly fenced corner, they immediately went to their well-worn exit to find it blocked. A few of them gave me a knowing head toss, looking at me, the new fence, and back to me. “Yup, that’s not an option anymore. You have to eat the grass on this side”. Unimpressed, they seem to have accepted the boundary and grazed onward. Technically, there is still an unfinished section in the other corner, so we’ll see how long it takes them to rally out the other gap. I’m sure we will need to finish that section this weekend. Thankfully, they never stray too far, typically telling on themselves before too long.
