Dear Curiosity Journal,
We kicked off the first week of our “break” from CSA by picking 20 cases of green curly kale. In case you’re curious, that’s 480 bundles, or 3,840 leaves – no small harvest. While we were at it, we weeded the beds, stripped down the lower leaves, and stomped down the overgrown pathways, giving the entire field a major reset. After that, Rufus helped me trim hooves, remove coats, and run general flock health checks on our 17 sheep and goats. For our final shift, Rufus cut down trees, chipping away at our forest stand improvement plan and I finished writing the curriculum for the Flower Farming workshop and clicked through a number of other office tasks. Sometimes the best part about a “break” from the CSA is that it gives us a chance to catch up on all of the work we’ve fallen behind on. That’s why “break” is always in parentheses. We’re not packing shares, but we’re working through all that has piled up.
