Dear Curiosity Journal,
The cucumbers have climbed to the top of their trellis, creating a prickly tangle in the greenhouse. The walking paths have grown increasingly narrow and finally closed completely when the tendrils reached across the alley to hold hands with their neighbors. Rufus and Annie trim, prune, and pick the cucumber beds while taking on tiny abrasions to any exposed skin from the nettlesome vines. Rufus likes to crawl into the chaos and pretend he’s in the jungle. Sometimes it’s fun to fantasize about a far-away land when you’re in the thick of the farming season – whatever it takes to get through the hot, stinging harvest.
