Dear Curiosity Journal,

At this point in the farming season, we’re propping ourselves up with morning pep talks, copious amounts of caffeine, comfrey salve on sore muscles, and cookies from our moral support advocate, delivery driver, and dear friend, Tim. Even a solid night of sleep isn’t enough for our bodies and brains to recover from the long day before, but we continue to push through the physical fatigue, compounded by financial strain, in a midsummer farmer’s fog. We have so many philosophical conversations about easier ways of life, why we subject ourselves to the hardships of agriculture, and the injustices of our food system. Ultimately the discussions boil down to our love for this land and work, our need to connect with Mother Nature, and our potent preference for autonomy, which is backed by the years we’ve dedicated to developing Keewaydin Farms and Driftless Curiosity. So, when the season crescendo hits, we do our best to support each other and try to keep in perspective that January and February will be the polar opposite of June and July.
