Dear Curiosity Journal,

I am so grateful to Kathryn from Ewetopia for allowing me to attend the spring shearing of her flock. There is just no substitute for experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed observing the farmers and shearer with much more of it than I have. I volunteered for the task that would get me closest to the shearing action, helping sweep, pick up belly wool, and bag fleeces. I followed the strokes of the shearer, over and over, as he moved through 52 sheep, only pausing to oil and adjust his clippers. He made it look easy, moving the animals into a position of submission, and completely denuding them in about 2 minutes. I’m still in awe of his skill. I’m also completely sold on the idea of coating my sheep to keep their wool clean. The Ewetopia fleeces were absolutely gorgeous – shepherdess goals.
