Dear Curiosity Journal,

In preparation for our Winter Solstice Celebration on December 16th, I’ve been collecting natural materials for wreath making. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve gathered dogwood, dried flowers, seed pods, pinecones, vines, sage, and other drying plants that catch my eye. I’m filling up the guest bedroom like an artsy chipmunk. Now I’ve begun building a couple of example wreaths, testing out various sizes and ways to attach materials, refining my technique, and enjoying the playful energy of being in an inventive flow. I’m experimenting with a design of a crescent moon within the wreath using dried marigolds, a needle, and thread, but need to figure out a way to hold the flowers more securely in place. Perhaps keeping more tension on the thread or a couple dabs of glue would do the trick. These are works in progress and the joy is in the journey. If you plan to attend our Winter Solstice Celebration, or if you want to make a wreath at home, I invite you to gather a few items that capture your attention from the natural world. It adds a bit of childlike wonder to your walk and can be a fun collective activity for the whole family.
