Dear Curiosity Journal,

The eucomis are in bloom. Their common name is the pineapple lily, and they recently transformed from looking like pineapples to flower towers, opening gradually from the bottom up. Rufus planted the bulbs this spring and they started giving us quite a showing midsummer. Native to southern Africa, these floral phenomenons are flourishing in the hot weather. The plantings in the greenhouse seem to be the happiest, along with the bees buzzing around the blooms. The unfolding discovery of growing new flowers is a bit like a slow motion gift unwrapping that lasts all summer long.
