Dear Curiosity Journal,
I’ve been wading in emotionally tender waters this week, managing the lump in my throat that comes with being on the verge of tears. The drought, fires, and financial strain weigh heavy on my heart and I’m burning up my brain pursuing answers. So, when a simple act of kindness arrived at my door, so did the waterworks. I wasn’t expecting a package and opened it feeling a bit confused, thinking there must be some mistake. A shoe box? New work boots… in my size? Then I remembered that our guest artist for the Creative Metalworking Weekend, Dana Albany, had asked my shoe size. She’d witnessed me running around in tattered tennies or bare feet. At some point, I sheepishly admitted that my feet hurt from all of the back and forth. I try on the boots and they fit perfectly. They’re so comfortable and give me an instant pep in my step. It melts my heart that Dana saw my aching feet and thought to send me a gift. I cry in the kitchen for a minute, tears dropping onto the toes, then pull it together to go show them off to Rufus. The smoke hasn’t cleared and the rain hasn’t come, yet the heaviness has shifted by the hand of kindness. Thank you, Dana.
