Dear Curiosity Journal,
It’s time to plant the marigolds for the 3rd Annual Driftless Dia de Muertos Celebration to be held on October 7th. I am joined by Gloria, a lead volunteer and member of the organizing committee, and our friends Shaun and Aaron, who came to pick up their CSA box and offered to lend a hand. We seeded 5,000 giant marigolds and about 2,000 purple accent flowers for the celebration. After the volunteers left, I was planting the final trays. I felt gritty, covered in dusty potting soil, and Rufus strolled over, kissed me, and said so sweetly, “You’re just over here making the world beautiful” -an age-old act, a helping hand, a simple sentence, and a flutter of joy on a Sunday afternoon.
