Dear Curiosity Journal,

While the soil sleeps a slow icy slumber, Rufus and I get curious about new crops. For Rufus, this usually begins with a stream of YouTube videos of various farmers giving divergent advice. This season, we’re experimenting with adding ginger and turmeric. We tried ginger last year with limited success, but learned from that failed experiment that it can’t handle the cold. Rufus has purchased organic ginger and turmeric root from the co-op and soaked it overnight. Our next step is to break up the roots, plant them in trays of soil, and give them a good watering. Rufus specifically chose trays without drainage so that we can saturate the trays while keeping them in the house. Stay tuned for a video interview with Farmer Rufus featuring his latest experiment.
