On Sunday, Julie Joy and I took a hike on the land to harvest some elderberries. I noticed they were ripening on my last walk past them, and we only have so long before the myriad of summer birds strip the branches clean. They seem to know where all the good stuff is. Elderberries can be made into a syrup and used for boosting the immune system and treating coughs, colds, flu, bacterial and viral infections that tend to come around in the winter months. We also harvested sage for tea and smudge sticks for our upcoming event on Saturday, The Sister Sciences Retreat, Ayurveda & Yoga on the Land. In the coming seasons, I want to learn to harvest and prepare more plants with healing properties to have on hand.
