 Beekeeping 101

Details:

Join us as we learn about beekeeping in a rural setting. In this workshop, we will learn about the history of beekeeping, the different types of honeybees, how to get started beekeeping, general hive maintenance, pests and their treatments, and finally, harvesting honey.
Instructor: Doreen Olson is a bee enthusiast and has been a hobby beekeeper since 2014. She has great respect for the environment at large, and in her free time, she is a volunteer Wisconsin Master Naturalist.

Maple Syrup Workshop

Location: Keewaydin Farms, 15270 Haucke Ln, Viola, WI 54664

Date: Saturday, March 12, 2022

Time: 11 AM – 3 PM

Details:

 Come hike into the maple trees with us and we’ll teach you all about running a small family maple syrup operation. This class will cover tapping trees, sap collection, boiling, and canning finished syrup.
Instructors: Rich Haucke has been spending his early spring days in this maple sugar bush since the 70s and you could say this is his happy place. He loves to stoke the boiler in the quiet of the woods and is excited to share his knowledge with visitors. His son and daughter-in-law, Rufus and Joy help him teach this class, sprinkling in fascinating history and sugar science.

Maple Syrup Volunteer Day & Spring Equinox Bonfire

 Location: Keewaydin Farms, 15270 Haucke Ln, Viola, WI 54664

Date: Saturday, March 19, 2022

Time: Maple Syrup Activity: 1 PM – 4 PM 

Equinox Activities & Bonfire: 5 PM – 7 PM

Details:

Gather with us under the boughs of the old mother maples as we bring in the first crop of the season – sweet, sweet maple syrup. Help collect sap, keep the boiler fire burning, and lend a hand as we boil down this saccharine delight from Mother Nature. Join us for a Spring Equinox Bonfire to follow as we mark the beginning of astronomical spring and the end of astronomical winter, giving gratitude for the bounty of the maple trees.
