Natural Dyes
Class #1 of 3 Part Mexican Weaving Series

In this unique class offering, special guest artist, Pedro Netzahualcoyotl, from Contla, Mexico will begin his 3 part series on Mexican weaving by sharing the traditional folk art of making natural dyes. Pedro will bring indigo and grana cochinilla (red) to work with from Mexico and we will also harvest marigolds and black walnuts on the farm to create a spectacular array of colors for dying wool and other natural fibers.
*Bilingual Learning Opportunity: Workshop instruction will be delivered in Spanish and translated to English.

Building a Table Loom
Class #2 of 3 Part Mexican Weaving Series

In this class, Pedro Netzahualcoyotl, from Contla, Mexico continues to teach a special series on traditional Mexican weaving with a session on building a table loom. Participants will use wood and hardware to construct their own personal looms to be used in the weaving class the following week and beyond.

Traditional Mexican Weaving

You won’t want to miss this extraordinary opportunity to join national award winning weaver, Pedro Netzahualcoyotl, as he shares the traditional folk art of Mexican weaving which has been passed down in his family from generation to generation. Participants will be able to use the table looms they created in the previous workshop as they learn a unique pattern. Each student will take home a woven canvas . We hope this workshop series inspires participants to deepen their connection with the beautiful process of turning natural materials into functional works of art.

Fly Fishing 101
Location: Camp Creek Fishery Area is 3 miles east of Viola along State Hwy 56 intersecting with County Hwy MM. There is a parking lot on the east side of the Fishery Area.

In this workshop, Peter Cozad, one of the lead guides from Driftless Angler, will teach you the basics of fly fishing. He will go over techniques for casting, reeling, and landing a fish and offer tips and individual advice on how to improve your cast and your chances of bringing home a trout! Even if you don’t land a fish, you’ll be spending this Saturday by the beautiful waters of Camp Creek surrounded by the wonders of the Driftless. So if you’ve been curious about fly fishing, come out and give it a try.
Please purchase your fishing license with the DNR prior to the workshop if you would like to fish.
