Dear Curiosity Journal,
Well, we finally purchased our first role of new fencing for the sheep. One of the benefits (and sometimes challenges) of living on a multigenerational farm is that there seems to be an endless amount of “materials” stacking up around the barn. We’ve re-purposed T-posts, woven wire, barbed wire, wooden posts, electric wire, and fencing clips from “the dairy days” to build the 5 current pastures (roughly 2 acres) over the last 2 years, but we’re finally getting to the bottom of the barrel. So, when Nelson’s had their Sales Fair, we picked up a new role of woven wire. I never thought I would be so amped about a role of metal. However, I’ve learned that you can’t truly appreciate the luxury of brand new fencing, until you’ve unburied and untangled a few acres of repurposed fencing. Also, you can’t truly appreciate the value of recycled materials until you hand over the cash for new materials – little lessons in fencing.
