Dear Curiosity Journal,
For Rufus’s birthday, he made a simple wish. He wanted to rest on a bluff overlooking the Kickapoo. We had to be intentional about taking time away. The farm always beckons, and it’s difficult to carve out anything that resembles a “work/life balance”. It’s not unlike the river asking the bluff to recede. The stone stands steady, yet the water makes way with her own steady stream of persistence. We step into daily entanglements, decisions to climb the rocky peak with steadfast determination or surrender to the liquid current. Today, we float on the tide of forcing ourselves to rest and reflect, trying our best not to talk about work (nearly impossible), and sensing into the simplicity of laying on a quilt and watching a bee’s nest on a Hemlock branch.
